MUSICAL IMPROV 1

Explore basic musical improv techniques through short-form games. You'll learn rhyming techniques, song structure, and approaches for improvising melody, harmony, and scene work. The final class will include a private showcase for friends and family.

MUSICAL IMPROV 2

This course will lead you in digging into types of songs. The class will involve homework outside of class, listening to playlists each week that focus on a particular type of musical theatre song, breaking down the structure and content of each song, and exploring how to improvising songs of each type within the context of a show. We’ll create and share a discussion forum the first week of class and all students will be expected to contribute and participate in group discussion.

This class requires instructor recommendation to register.

Prereq.: MI 2 + instructor recommendation

MUSICAL IMPROV 3

Each ensemble will create a show that reflects their class strengths/goals/interests. We’ll continue reviewing and deepening core concepts (musical scene work, setup/payoff within songs, emotional commitment, finding the game, etc.) while exploring various formats for a musical improv show. This session also includes 3 showcase performances.

This class requires instructor recommendation and an access code to register.

CLASS OVERVIEW
  • Unless otherwise noted all courses cost $275 total and consist of eight, three-hour classes that meet weekly.

  • Tuition is non-refundable. All sales are final.

  • Missing more than two classes means you may be asked to repeat the Level. Students are encouraged to attend class on another night to gain the knowledge and skills missed, but doing so is for the student’s benefit and does not excuse the absence.

  • Level 1 is required unless you have recently graduated from a formal training program; if you have questions please email the training center
